Celebrating August birthdays with food, fun, and friendship. The Glen Haven One O’Clock Crew once again proved that a good time is more about the people than the numbers. As residents gathered for the August birthday celebration, organizer Sheila Wallace set the tone for the afternoon while waiting for guests to arrive.

“We don’t care who shows up; we all have fun no matter who is here,” Sheila said with a smile. Every month, Sheila brings excitement to the gathering by providing gift cards for game prizes, while residents contribute to a delicious potluck meal. August birthday celebrants received special tickets for prize drawings held throughout the event.

Helping Sheila with the festivities was her nine-year-old assistant, Kensley Williams, who is a favorite among residents during the prize drawings. One giveaway recognized the resident who brought the most guests. Dale LaFleur jokingly announced, “I brought the whole table!” Another resident brought a newcomer, showing how the event helps neighbors connect and welcome new faces into the community.

Sheila asked the crowd if they were hungry and smoothly moved the afternoon into the meal portion of the event. Tables quickly filled with homemade and store-bought favorites including salads, meats, macaroni and cheese, casseroles, and a beautifully decorated birthday cake. The fun continued while residents ate.

Sheila handed out more gift cards, including one game where participants searched under their chairs for a hidden marker. Dave Timmons took home an Arby’s gift card. Later, everyone joined together in singing “Happy Birthday” to the August celebrants before the final game, Count the Candy. Brenda Reeves came closest with a guess of 31.

The afternoon wrapped up with cleanup faster than anyone could blink. As always, the One O’Clock Crew demonstrated the team spirit that makes these gatherings so special. ♥
